FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Neuro-Network Centre?
We’re a specialist centre focused on neuropsychology — the study of how the brain affects behaviour, thinking, emotions, and daily functioning. Led by Dr. Sharon Truter, we offer expert assessments, reports, training, and research, all grounded in compassion and scientific excellence.
What is neuropsychology?
Neuropsychology is a specialised branch of psychology that focuses on understanding how the brain affects behaviour, thinking, emotions, and functioning. It’s especially useful in diagnosing and managing conditions like brain injuries, dementia, learning difficulties, and cognitive impairments.
Who can use your services?
Our services are open to individuals of all ages, from young children to the elderly. We work with patients, families, legal professionals, psychologists, and doctors across South Africa. Individuals from other countries may consult with us using video calling.
What conditions or concerns do you assess?
We work with a wide range of issues, including memory problems, learning difficulties, brain injuries, dementia, attention disorders, and more.
Who can benefit from a neuropsychological assessment?
Our assessments support individuals of all ages—children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly—who may be experiencing difficulties with memory, concentration, spatial processing, reasoning, judgement, emotional regulation, or behaviour. We also provide expert reports for legal professionals, assist insurance companies with assessments related to claims, and offer evaluations for aviators to determine their fitness to perform in aviation roles.
Do I need a referral to book an appointment?
While referrals are welcome (especially from doctors or other healthcare professionals), they are usually not required. Assessments for medico-legal/forensic purposes require a letter of instruction from an attorney. You may contact us directly to discuss your needs.
What happens during a neuropsychological assessment?
You (or your loved one) will complete a series of structured tests and interviews designed to measure memory, attention, problem-solving, language, mood, and other areas of brain function. The assessment usually takes 3-5 hours and usually results in a comprehensive report.
Where are you located? Do you offer remote services?
We’re based in South Africa and offer both in-person and remote (online or telephonic) consultations and services where appropriate. In-person assessments can be done in Somerset West (our main office) but can also be arranged to take place in Mthatha or Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth).
Is the centre accessible for people with disabilities?
Yes, we strive to create an inclusive and supportive environment for people of all abilities. Let us know if you have specific needs before your appointment.
